Why a mug of hope? There’s an important contrast to be drawn between a mug of hope and the familiar “cup of cheer”.

Generally speaking, a mug is bigger and stronger than a cup. It will hold more and last longer. I remember years ago watching a woman illustrate her lesson to a group of girls by holding a china cup up and then suddenly letting it go. We watched the cup shatter. If she had been a holding a mug, it may have chipped or lost a handle, but most likely, it would not have shattered. And this is the difference between hope and cheer. Even though the Bible encourages us to be “of good cheer,” that cheer is based on the confident hope we have in Christ.

This blog explores and encourages that confident hope. For more introduction to me and the intent of my blog, check out my first blog post here.

The simple truth is that the something to which biblical hope is attached is, in fact, Jesus Christ. This allows the reality of hope to be more than merely a ‘hope-so’ sentimentality. This hope is rugged and strong, with the ability to empower us as we move through life.
